GEOINT 2026 Symposium: Delivering Real Impact With Open Source Geo

Dear Reader,

A key theme of the keynote speech by Major General Paul Lynch of NATO was interoperability – getting systems and data to work together across teams in disparate environments.  This is only compounded by the availability of massive data and AI-generated derivatives.  Furthermore, SOCOM and others have expressed the need to break free from vendor-locked software stacks.

During the Lightning Talk Session in the Innovation Corner, I had the privilege of presenting on how open-source geospatial technologies such as GeoServer, GeoNode, and MapStore address the need for system modernization and interoperability expressed at both GEOINT and SOFIC.

“Delivering Real Impact With Open Source GEOINT” provides a 5 minute briefing on how open source geospatial software is already being used in mission-critical GEOINT applications, and addresses some common misconceptions around open source.  You can view a recording of that presentation here below.

I invite you to check out the applications presented, especially HURREVAC (free to .gov, .mil, and .edu) and Critical Response Group’s CRG Plans.  Both of these applications, as well as the EMSA example provided in the presentation, are excellent examples of how open source geospatial and GeoServer specifically are enabling mission intelligence in secure environments providing high availability and true interoperability across systems, teams, and environments for real-time decision advantage.
